The students are reading Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. In the book, the main character is assigned an art project to create a tree, which becomes a major symbol throughout the novel. The English 12 students were given the same assignment. They had to create a tree, present it, and explain what their tree symbolizes. The students used various methods to create their trees such as sketches, watercolors, scratch art, welds, construction, and shadow art.
