Criteria
Individuals or teams may be nominated representing the following categories. The subsequent criteria in each category will serve as guidelines which the selection committee can use, but are not limited to. When necessary, the selection committee will reserve the right to take into consideration other criteria. Contributors prior to the consolidation of Norway High School and Vulcan High School will be eligible for nomination and selection. Graduates must be ten (10) years removed from graduation. Individuals nominated do not need to be graduates of Norway High School, Vulcan High School, or the Norway-Vulcan Area Schools but must have demonstrated significant contributions to the success of the school district and its students and can be nominated at any time. Induction of teams will be limited to one (1) per year. Team nominees will not be eligible for a minimum of ten (10) years after their accomplishment.
I Academic / Career Accomplishments:
Business, professional, military service, political, and educational achievements that have resulted in a significant and direct impact in their field. This individual has demonstrated unique talents and/or accomplishments.
II Arts and Entertainment:
Recognition for achievement in the performing arts and/or contributions to the promotion of cultural activities at the local, state, or national level.
III Athletic Achievement:
The individual, team, coach or administrator will be recognized for outstanding athletic accomplishments while attending or being employed by the Norway-Vulcan Area Schools and/or at the college, semi-professional, or professional levels.
IV Humanitarian Impact:
Individuals who are aware of the circumstances of other people’s / society’s needs and by sustained example or contribution have been a major influence in the lives of individuals and/or communities through acts of leadership.
V Special Honorary Award for Contributions to Norway-Vulcan Area Schools:
Individuals, who by their very presence, and years of dedication to the Norway-Vulcan shaped the lives of the students they encountered during their daily assigned duties.
** A posthumous award may be bestowed after the death of a Norway-Vulcan nominee for achievements, contributions, or services rendered during his/her lifetime.
Nominations
Nominations will be accepted from any interested person, including the selection committee, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, and the general public. There are no restrictions on who may submit a nomination, but an individual must be nominated by someone other than himself or herself.
The burden of research for a nominee’s accomplishments shall be the responsibility of the person(s) submitting the nomination. Each application shall, at a minimum, include the following information:
A letter of recommendation from the person making the nomination. Other letters of support from the appropriate individuals who can validate or substantiate pertinent information related to the accomplishments of the nominee are optional.
Including newspaper clippings, magazine articles, records, scorebooks, yearbook clippings, copies of contributions of the nominee.
A suitable photograph for reproduction must be submitted.
The person making the nomination must include contact information with the nomination.
Norway-Vulcan Area Schools Hall of Distinction Selection Committee members may nominate or be nominated for the Hall of Distinction. However, these members must abstain from voting in either of those instances.
All nominations must be submitted by April 1 of each year to be eligible for the Hall of Distinction induction, as additional input may be required. Committee selection for the induction year should be completed no later than May 1 of the current committee year in order to notify inductees and prepare awards for a fall induction ceremony.
Once nominated, a nominee’s information will remain on file for five (5) years and will be considered on a yearly basis. Nominee information can be updated within the five (5) year time period. If a nominee is not chosen within the five (5) years of initial submission, he or she can be nominated again. Names of these individuals will be held in confidentiality by the board members.
